Chocolate Crackles

16 Aug

These tasty cookies always remind me of home – my mom would often make these for her little girl with a major sweet tooth. Lucky for me, she included the recipe in a family recipe cookbook I got for Christmas several years ago. These cookies are incredibly easy to make – maybe something fun to bake with your own kiddos – and the powdered sugar coating gives a neat texture and appearance. Enjoy!

Chocolate Crackles

1/2 cup butter, melted
4 Tbsp vegetable oil
2 tsp vanilla extract
4 eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
12 Tbsp cocoa powder
2 cups sugar
Powdered sugar (for coating)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Mix the first 3 ingredients together. Add the eggs, one at a time, and mix. Combine the 5 remaining dry ingredients and mix into the wet ingredients until combined. Dough will be soft – chill the dough for about 20 minutes. Roll the chilled dough into balls and drop into a bowl with powdered sugar until covered. Bake for 12 minutes and put on a rack to cool.

Becky, these were amazing! I think I ate approximately 16 of them the day I made them.
